Earlier we announced the launch of the Total Karting Zero Local Championships for 2022, that features changes to make e-kart racing ever more accessible. You may have already seen that the upcoming Championships will feature a new Junior class that opens electric Arrive & Drive kart racing up to the age of 16, as well as the visiting of some exciting new venues.
Now we’re back with the details of what to expect and when you can book!

Class sizes and Class changes
The launch of a new e-kart fleet (the RSM 1.6 EK) brings the addition of a Junior chassis: a bigger and faster electric race kart than the current electric Cadet! It will make racing more accessible for families with drivers up to the age of 16, as well as provide a progression for our current drivers to advance to when they reach the age of 12 and become too tall for a Cadet kart.
Grid sizes will also increase to a maximum of 12 Bambino’s per grid, 15 Cadets per grid and 10 Juniors per grid.
Lower Prices
In line with our mission to make motorsport more accessible to families, the new format has allowed us to bring the price down for Cadet and Bambino prices, whilst providing the new Junior class at an equal step change in price.
The price of an Arrive & Drive race weekend will be £440 for Bambino (ages 6 – 8), £460 in the Cadet class (ages 9 – 12) and £480 in the Junior class (ages 12 – 16) per driver. Measurement restrictions for each class remain.
Grouping and Championship Points
The introduction of the RSM 1.6 EK will remove seat fit/measurement restrictions, allowing for us to continue working towards fairer racing and grouping drivers by ability. Groups and karts will be randomly allocated for Practices and Qualifying, however each drivers best Qualifying time will set the groups and karts for Heats and Final.
E.g. for a group of 10 drivers, the fastest lap will be pole position in Group 1 and working down to 10. The 11th fastest lap will be in pole position in Group 2. Drivers will stay in the groups set by TQ for all Heats and Final.
Championship scoring will be done in the same way. E.g. for a group of 10 drivers, the driver finishing 1st in Group 1 will receive points for 1st position and so on until 10th position. The driver finishing 1st in Group 2 will receive points for 11th position and so on until 10th position in Group 2.
When do bookings open?
Bookings will open here on the 9th February at 9am.

As with the previous championships, we will be inviting special guests to some of the race weekends to carry out the group coaching to keep our drivers race skills developing and growing. FAQ:
Yes you can do both championships to take the opportunity to visit tracks at both regions, and double your chances at qualifying for the National Final. You will accrue points in both championships separately.
No, points accrued in one championship will be allocated to that championship only. You cannot carry points between the championships.
You can choose to do as little or as many rounds as suit you but you will not receive points for any rounds not entered. You will receive points for rounds you do enter. If you enter all 6 rounds of the championship, you will drop the lowest scoring round.
Yes, you can enter as many or as few rounds as you wish in either or both championships. However, you will accrue points for each championship separately, they cannot be combined.
Points will be accrued for each championship separately, meaning at the end of the championship there will be a North Champion and a South Champion.
From 2023 we will introduce a multi-round National Championship.
The highest scoring drivers from each championship, in each class, will qualify to race in the National Final for the Total Karting Zero 2022 National Champion title at Rye House on the 22nd – 23rd October. A total of 12 Bambino’s, 15 Cadet’s and 10 Juniors from each Championship will qualify for the National Final.
